What is epic content? Why is it important? What does it mean to you?
All three are very important questions to ask before creating content.
First, let’s answer the question, “What is epic content?” At Raidious, we define epic content as “remarkable.” Your blog post, video, infographic or social post better create conversation. It truly needs to worthy of “remarking” on and about. When writing a piece of content, it must stand out among thousands of others. Don’t be afraid to try new things when writing content. Be bold. Be stringent. If you know it isn’t “epic,” don’t publish it. Keep working on it. Keep refining it.
So what makes content remarkable? How do you get there? Knowing who your audience members are and understanding what they like and want in their content consumption is crucial. Your content needs to be expressive and informative. Whether it’s a fact, a point of view etc., you must grab your audience’s attention. You need to make your audience stop and digest what you are writing about, and furthermore, you need to give them a reason to respond and engage.
Are you listening to your audience? That’s a great place to start. Are you paying attention to the other outlets your audience is visiting? What’s winning on those media outlets? Honestly, it all starts with research and planning and creating a strategy. If you don’t have a content strategy, you’re flying by the seat of your pants. Get smart and develop a real plan.
In that plan, you can define what “epic” means for your brand. Everyone’s goals are different, so their idea of what “epic content” is is likely going to be different as well. Again, you have to know your audience. What are they looking for? What are they hoping for? Are you giving them that and then some? Are you giving them the things they didn’t even realize they needed? Are you continuing to find new and innovative ways to relate to your audience? It is imperative that you know your audience and what they expect from you … that way, you can speak to them in a way that meets and hopefully exceeds their expectations.
Artists make loads of sketches and paintings and forms and models before they ever get to the final piece. Repetition and refinement leads to high quality. You have to be willing to throw away what you know isn’t epic, and you have to have a plan and define what epic means to your and your audience. Now, get to work!
